Consequently, Brazil is becoming a wine destination and is gaining on the world around it with mile steps. At the present time more than 78 000 hectares of vineyards are planted and the planted areas are spreading due to planned planting in new regions. A vast majority of all Brazilian vineyards lie in the South in the country of Rio Grande Sul, where there are four out of the five most important areas - Vale dos Vinhedos, Serra Gaúcha, Campos de Cima da Serra and Campanha. To visit the fifth region of Vale do São Francisco we would have to get relocated as far as to the Equator, into a tropical climate of the northern country of Bahia.
